I had 3 weeks after that appointment until my first chemotherapy treatment on February 24, 2022. Those weeks were filled with dr appointments and work. My liver levels were elevated in my bloodwork and I had to get a CT scan to check my abdomen. The results were fine so I think they were elevated due to the pain meds I as taking. 2 weeks after my surgery I finally started to feel normal. I was working a lot and trying not to think about cancer and treatments. I completed lots of research on the cold-cap. I spoke to a friend of a friend who had used the cap during her treatment. The retention results on my drugs are not as great but many studies have shown that it helps the hair to grow back quicker. So I ordered the cold-cap. I realized that it is not covered by insurance and had to pay $1800 for it. They base the price on the number of treatments and they ship it to your home. It is sad that it’s only available to people that can pay for it in the USA. Europe offers it at most of their centers for everyone that wants to use it. The Paxman website and the facebook group were very helpful to learn about the process. I decided to color my hair darker to match my natural color because you are not able to color your hair during chemo and for about 6 months after. I also cut it a little shorter to shoulder length to prepare for the process. I got my port placed 2 days before my first chemotherapy appointment. I recommend getting the port in at least a week before. It was still very sore and was still covered by bandages when I started treatments. I received lots of gifts from wonderful friends to help me prepare for treatments. I talked to friends in the medical field about my treatments and learned as much as I could to prepare myself. Those 3 weeks went by really quickly.
