Happy birthday to me!

Today is my 52nd birthday.

I never thought I would be battling cancer at this point in my life. It’s easy to ask “why me?” but why not me? This terrible disease touches lots of people of all ages. I have met so many wonderful people through this journey. Mostly women of all ages gracefully battling alongside me. I met a lady this week who is going through treatments for a second time. Her breast cancer came back after 5 years. She has had surgery, chemo and now has radiation twice a day. All she can talk about is her wonderful grandchildren and getting through her treatments so she can be around for them. She is definitely an inspiration to me. Today I completed #13 of 20 rounds of radiation. No major side effects so far. Just some aches and pains in my shoulder and chest. I am so close to the end of my treatments and I am very thankful.

Tim was out of town today but I was able to go to dinner with my kids. We had a good time together with lots of laughs. They are my greatest achievement and I love spending time with them. I also had lunch with my mom and dad. I received lots of Facebook messages, text messages and phone calls that made me feel really good. The amount of love and support I have received has been overwhelming.

In previous years I never felt my age; however, this year I think I feel older than I am. I seems like the chemo and radiation have wrecked my body. I wish I had not taken my health for granted before cancer. For those of you that have your health – appreciate it! It can go away at any moment. I am looking forward to feeling better and taking care of my body so that I can enjoy all the things that I love. I am feeling lots of feelings today but mostly just feeling thankful.
