Treatments are finished!

This has been an important week in my journey. I finished my last radiation treatment on Monday and met with my oncologist Thursday. She said that I am finished with treatments. I have to come in every 3 months for blood work and mammogram every 6 months. No other medication at this time. My blood work looked good. Hemoglobin is up but my white blood cells are still a little low. I am able to start exercising again and take any supplements that I want. I have another follow up appointment with the breast surgeon on the 15th and get my port removed. I can stop taking the blood thinner after that. So the only medication I will take is for the chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy in my feet. It will take some time for that to go away but It’s definitely getting better.

I seem to have a little more energy each day. My skin is doing pretty well in the area that received the radiation. My hair is growing back as well as my eyebrows and lashes. I started going out without covering my head this week. I know the process of it growing back will not be easy but I have decided to embrace my current look. It’s just too hot to wear my wig!  My mom took a picture of me and my dad this week. He kept saying we were twins while my head was bald so we wanted to document it. Hopefully I will never be bald again!

I decided to rest this weekend and spend some time floating in the pool. We have 3 weddings to attend in the next few months and a shower next weekend. So lots of busy weekends ahead. I’m glad I will be able to attend them. It is such a special time for my niece, my best friend’s daughter and one of my daughter’s best friend and I wouldn’t want to miss any of it. My daughter is a bridesmaid in all 3 weddings!

We also planned a family trip for December 2022. Grayson will graduate on December 10th and we will fly to Jamaica on December 11th for the “Mom kicked cancer’s ass” trip. We will also celebrate Grayson’s graduation. It will just be the 6 of us but my kids and their partners are my favorite people to hang around. We have so much fun together. We started talking about this trip earlier in the year and it gave us something to look forward to. For some reason I couldn’t book it until I completed treatment. I felt like I was stuck during the past 7 months. It was so hard to see past what I was going through. But now I am excited about the future. There will still be some anxiety about reoccurrence for the rest of my life but that cannot be my focus. I want to continue to help other people that may be going through cancer or other illnesses. I want to focus on my work and teaching people how money works. I enjoy working with young people and helping them get set up for a positive financial future. I will also focus on maintaining my health, appreciating my body, reducing stress and living life to the fullest.
